Christmas in July

Ok well..it was a rough couple of days.  I thought I lost all my pictures on my computer. And no I didn't have any of it backed up.  I know STUPID!  I'm not quite sure what happened but everything was gone or so I thought.  I had people tell me to take it to the Geek Squad and I was looking into it when my brother said he thought he could get them back.  So I let him try..and after almost a complete 24 hours everything was back!!! LOVE my brother!!!  I owe him a lot of drinks. But the hard part was finding where everything went to...any and every picture I had looked out on the internet was saved too.  So we had to go through and delete all of those which we are not completely through with yet.  Lesson learn..save everything to an external hard drive.  Which I have!!

So I did not post this back in December so I decided to wait until Christmas in July.  For the past three or four years we have had a door decorating contest at our school in December.  This past year's theme was a 12 Days of.....  I did two doors..one with my class and then the other with the recycling club.  I did not win!  :(  But it was a lot of fun.

Here is the Recycling Club's door.  We used recyclable materials.

I thought I took a picture of the whole thing but I guess I didn't or that picture got lost somewhere on my computer.

My class' door
The elves are on the top left corner oft he door.

My students really enjoyed this..we stayed in during recess to complete it.  Hope you enjoyed!

Happy Christmas in July!!!

July Currently and First Movie

I can't believe this is July already!  As long as this month goes slow..I'm ok with it being July.  I think I am going to have daughter's birthday party at the of this month instead of August.  Her birthday is August 9 but August is a busy month.  I start going back to my classroom, in service days, getting ready for the first day of school, it seems like everyone's birthday is in August. So I don't have to worry about it interfering with anything I'm thinking the last weekend of July.

If you would like to join on the Currently here is a link to Farley's page.

Currently time

This is the first time in probably about a week my daughter has taken a nap.  She just refuses to so I'm a happy mama right now.  I need my down time too!

I know summer started a three weeks ago but a week in there I was teaching a science camp.  So I have only had two weeks of summer and it is just nice to know that tomorrow morning my alarm won't be going off.  Unless my daughter decides to get up early.

I'm really trying to turn my brain off about anything related to school but it is hard because I am so excited about teaching first grade next year.  I'm having a hard time trying to arrange my classroom.  I really have only one wall. One wall has two closets, counter top, and sink, second wall is where the whiteboard and bulletin boards are, and the third wall is where the door, cabinets, and my book shelf for my library is. Which really only leaves me one wall and I think I am going to have to put my computers there which takes up half of the wall.  Plus not  knowing exactly how I want my classroom to run, it is hard to imagine where to put everything.  I think I need someone who has been a first grade teacher to come help me.  Once I get back into my classroom I will show what the room looks like.

I want a massage...I have this knot next to my right shoulder blade.  My husband tries to massage it for me..which helps but I think that is where all my stress goes because it seems to always be there.  So I think I need to see a massage therapist on a weekly basis.  Now if I had the money and knew a good one.

Laundry..I hate it!  enough said.

Tips, tricks, or hints..I couldn't think of anything...I'm not really good at this blogging thing and I don't sell or create many things.  I don't have the time.  But whatever it is that you are doing just enjoy it!

Today we took my daughter to her first movie.  She has been asking us to see this movie since the previews came on TV.  Monster's University

We did not eat the whole bucket of popcorn.  We lasted through the whole movie, which I was afraid we won't it.  She did ask at one point if we could leave.  I think she was tired of sitting.  She would go back and forth between sitting in her chair, sitting on my lap, or standing.

I have decided to do this photo challenge for July

Let's Get Acquainted Linky Party

I am linking up to Flying into First Grade to her "Let's Get Acquainted Linky Party"

It is Tic Tac Toe.  I am going to go down on the right column.

Dream Vacation-Australia.  I don't know if I will ever be able to go but the dream is there.  It has everything...beaches, the outback, the Opera house, the Great Barrier Reef and so many more things I would love to see and do.

Books I'm Reading- I'm reading couple of books at the moment.  For school I'm reading the Daily Five..I have gone from teaching 4th grade (mostly math and science for 7 years) to 1st grade next year so I'm trying to read everything I can.  My summer reads-I just started Snow White Sorrow by Cameron Jace.  There were prequels called the Grimm Diaries.  It was giving you background information on some the characters but also on the story line.  I don't know if I will look at fairy tales the same after reading these.  Books I have on my list is Fault in Our Stars by John Green and also a book called Dark Light which supposedly like 50 Shades of Grey.  Those were books recommended to me.

Hobbies-I'm not quite sure I have a hobby anymore.  I like to blog when I get the chance.  I love to read but only seem to have the time during the summer or during breaks.  I LOVE taking pictures especially of my daughter.  When I do have time I love to make digital scrapbooks.

If you would like to join in on this linky party please go to Flying into First Grade.

End of the Year and Currently

So the end of the year has come and gone!  It was a very crazy end of the year...I'm so glad it is over.  Our last time in the library the librarian put out pattern blocks for the students to play with.  This is what my students did.

Well I have some exciting and sad news..next year I will not be in 4th  grade.  I will be teaching 1st grade!!!!!  I am very excited and nervous.  I have asked to move out of 4th grade for several years now.  The opportunity came along when a 1st grade teacher asked to move to 4th grade. (I am very thankful for this person)  For anyone that is in a testing grade knows the opportunity to move doesn't come along very often.  It seems like once you are in a testing grade you are stuck there for LIFE!!!  So I jumped at the chance. BUT I'm sad to be leaving my green hall friends. (4th and 3rd grade is in that hallway)  We are like family in our hallway.  I won't be working with my friend, Farley anymore.  :*-(  I am moving to the yellow hallway which is totally on the opposite side from green hall.  I am probably the farthest way possible from green hall.  But I have already got plans to visit..my 1st graders will be writing letters to 4th graders.  I am going to buddy up with 3rd grade to do some math.  I will be back to visit green hall often.  Farley, please let me know when ya'll order Jimmy John's.  Also don't forget about me during professional development days for lunch.  Just have an Itty Bitty check when you get into the car to leave.  haha!  Really and truly I am very excited about this change.  It is a new challenge.

Math 2D shapes

I had my kids do this with a sub.  Of course this was after we learned and reviewed the attributes of 2D shapes.  They needed to draw a picture using 2D shapes but they were required to draw certain shapes.  Here is the paper I gave them.

These are some of the drawings I got.

I love this bedroom!

Art Show

We had our district art show this past week.  Which is kind of funny considering we don't have art teachers. Well...anyways some of my students' art work was in it.

These were our winter scenes.

I had the students think of a winter scene and draw a rough draft.  Then I wanted them to zero in on part of the scene not the whole thing and make that their art work.  (like what they are suppose to do in their writing)

They drew their picture on black paper then either outlined it in glue or black pastel.  Then they colored in their picture with pastels.

They students really enjoyed doing this.  They kept asking to stay inside during recess to finish them.
