End of the Year and Currently

So the end of the year has come and gone!  It was a very crazy end of the year...I'm so glad it is over.  Our last time in the library the librarian put out pattern blocks for the students to play with.  This is what my students did.

Well I have some exciting and sad news..next year I will not be in 4th  grade.  I will be teaching 1st grade!!!!!  I am very excited and nervous.  I have asked to move out of 4th grade for several years now.  The opportunity came along when a 1st grade teacher asked to move to 4th grade. (I am very thankful for this person)  For anyone that is in a testing grade knows the opportunity to move doesn't come along very often.  It seems like once you are in a testing grade you are stuck there for LIFE!!!  So I jumped at the chance. BUT I'm sad to be leaving my green hall friends. (4th and 3rd grade is in that hallway)  We are like family in our hallway.  I won't be working with my friend, Farley anymore.  :*-(  I am moving to the yellow hallway which is totally on the opposite side from green hall.  I am probably the farthest way possible from green hall.  But I have already got plans to visit..my 1st graders will be writing letters to 4th graders.  I am going to buddy up with 3rd grade to do some math.  I will be back to visit green hall often.  Farley, please let me know when ya'll order Jimmy John's.  Also don't forget about me during professional development days for lunch.  Just have an Itty Bitty check when you get into the car to leave.  haha!  Really and truly I am very excited about this change.  It is a new challenge.

Math 2D shapes

I had my kids do this with a sub.  Of course this was after we learned and reviewed the attributes of 2D shapes.  They needed to draw a picture using 2D shapes but they were required to draw certain shapes.  Here is the paper I gave them.

These are some of the drawings I got.

I love this bedroom!

Art Show

We had our district art show this past week.  Which is kind of funny considering we don't have art teachers. Well...anyways some of my students' art work was in it.

These were our winter scenes.

I had the students think of a winter scene and draw a rough draft.  Then I wanted them to zero in on part of the scene not the whole thing and make that their art work.  (like what they are suppose to do in their writing)

They drew their picture on black paper then either outlined it in glue or black pastel.  Then they colored in their picture with pastels.

They students really enjoyed doing this.  They kept asking to stay inside during recess to finish them.

Recycling Club

This year I was in charge of the Recycling Club. Only 4th and 5th graders were allowed to be in it.  In previous years, the students collected all the recycling from the classrooms to be dumped in the big bin outside our school.  This year I wanted them to do more then just that.  So this year along with collecting the recycling we made things out of recycled materials.

Project #4=Magazine Holders out of cereal boxes

Project #5-Ball and Mitt out of newspapers and a milk jug from lakeshorelearning

I have really enjoyed doing it especially with this group of kids.  I started off with probably 15 kids and now have about 7 or 8 kids who show up for meetings consistently.

I don't know if I will be doing this next school year or not.  We have a lot of clubs at our school for such a small school.  My principal mentioned combining some clubs or getting rid of some.  So we will see.

Phases of the Moon

We have been studying the Phases of the Moon. My kiddos get that there is a pattern.  Some are still getting confused with the  waxing and waning.  Which I don't blame them because I still get confused too.

To help us remember we used Oreos to put the moon phases in order.  Of course they LOVED it!!!

Afterwards they got to eat the Oreos, which I was told was their favorite part. :-)

We used the off brand of Oreos and I will have to say they aren't as good as the orginal.  We used the orginal Oreos last year and they tasted and broke apart better.  Note to self always use the orginal Oreos even if they are little bit more expensive.

Spring Break and March Currently

Well I started my Spring Break a day early but it wasn't for anything fun.  I had my gallbladder removed Friday, March 8.  So the rest of my spring break well hasn't been fun.  Here it is the night before we go back to school and I'm to the point now where I can actually do things without being in pain or getting worn out.  I vote we have another week of Spring Break!!!!

I'm not looking forward to going back to work.  I hate this time of year because now until the end of April we will be focusing on testing.  :-/

Here is my Currently.  Thinking of words that begin with M wasn't as easy as I thought.

Addison has really gotten into imaginative play here lately.  I love lsitening to her and her stories.  She has been a handful lately.  She defintiely has gotten her personality.  She tells me no and has the attitude behind it.  But at the same time can be as sweet as can be.  She tells me all the time she loves and that I am her best friend.

I have been wanting to put our house on the market for the last year and half.  I want a bigger house!  We need more space and I want to be closer to work.  The drive from where we live now to work..well it isn't fun.  It doesn't help that they are doing construction.  I can't seem to keep the house clean in order to put it on the market.  I am really considering hiring a maid to clean the house and pick up.

Here is the link to Farley's blog to get the March Currently.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday

As you may know Dr. Seuss' birthday was March 2. Addi and I celebrated. We painted our toes in Dr. Seuss colors.

We also had a Dr. Seuss dessert: strawberries and bananas.
